The Sol Cycles vision began in 2007, as four Princeton engineers desired to make a range of superior bamboo bikes that could be both affordable and made with the highest possible quality. The bamboo bicycle was such an appealing idea for a multitude of reasons. The material is extremely light and stiff giving high performance similar to a carbon fiber frame. However its vibration dampening makes it superior to carbon for enhanced comfort on long rides. In addition, with bamboo being a natural composite, no two frames are exactly alike, each having its own unique properties. By using a natural material, each bamboo bicycle that replaces a metal or carbon frame works towards reducing the world-wide carbon footprint.
After a great deal of research, analysis, development, and time, Sol Cycles is now the only U.S. bicycle company specializing solely on bamboo bicycles.
