To order a SOL Cycles bicycle, first choose from our three bicycle types:
1) ROAD - Standard: $1595; SL: $1995; Custom: $2695
2) CROSS - Standard: $1495; SL: $1895; Custom: $2595
3) SINGLE SPEED - Standard: $1395; SL: $1795; Custom: $2,495
After choosing from 1-3 above, please decide which Frame Model you would like. Our frame models are:
1) STANDARD: Optimized for general riding and training, the Standard is made with stiff but very comfortable bamboo. It is made from our standard grade of treated bamboo that is of the highest quality, and the frame is built to be very durable and last for years of riding. The joints are compression-molded unidirectional carbon fiber with a 90-degree weave outer layer for overall stiffness and durability. The dropouts are customly modified for each individual frame to interface smoothly with the bamboo. The head tube, BB shell, and seatpost collar insert are all 6061 aluminum tubing that has been machined to precise tolerances.
2) SL: Optimized for racing and fast group riding, the SL frame is both stiffer and lighter than the Standard, but retains much of the comfort that makes bamboo such an excellent frame material. The tubes are specially selected for certain shapes (including curvature and ovalization), wall thicknesses, and nodal densities--only 10% of our select bamboo qualifies for the SL. The joints of the SL are optimized for added stiffness, especially in the BB/down tube junction and chainstays, which are spiral-wrapped with a single strand of carbon fiber for additional torsional stiffness. The head tube, BB shell, seatpost collar insert, and dropouts are the same as those used in the Standard.
3) CUSTOM: Our top model. After a full consultation to discuss rider style, anticipated use of the bike, and specific bike fit and geometry requests, a custom-designed bamboo bike is crafted. The same metal pieces and joint technique are used as in the Standard and SL, but every joint and tube is customized for specific comfort, stiffness, and mass properties to produce a truly unique bicycle. This is essentially a "one-off", and is truly unique to its owner.
